Experienced industry leaders join forces to establish Simply Sweet Games

Two seasoned gaming veterans have joined forces to establish Simply Sweet Games, unveiling their inaugural project, Criss Cross Castle, at this year's Games Developer Conference.

Based in British Columbia, Simply Sweet Games is the brainchild of Tina Merry and Carina Kom. Merry boasts an impressive track record, having contributed to the development and launch of over two dozen AAA and mobile video games, collaborating with industry giants like Electronic Arts and King Activision on renowned titles such as FIFA, Need for Speed, and Battlefield. Meanwhile, Kom, a respected video game director, producer, and advocate for the industry, brings over 15 years of experience to the table, having worked with esteemed teams at EA, Microsoft, and Unity to successfully release games across various platforms.

Prior to founding Simply Sweet Games, Kom established PVP Entertainment Guild, a nonprofit organization in British Columbia aimed at connecting game developers with industry experts, mentors, and consultants. Additionally, she played a pivotal role in the inception of Women in Games Vancouver, later rebranded to Diversity in Games (DIG), advocating for diversity and inclusivity within the gaming sector.

Their debut offering, Criss Cross Castle, promises a unique blend of Scrabble and Crosswords with rogue-like elements, offering players an immersive adventure. The studio is gearing up to showcase a prototype of the game at this year's Game Developer Conference.

CEO and co-founder Tina Merry emphasizes their ambition to revolutionize the word game genre, stating, “Criss Cross Castle is the culmination of our team's extensive experience and passion for creating engaging, deep gameplay experiences." She envisions the game captivating players seeking a strategic and immersive gameplay experience, setting a new standard for word games.

Simply Sweet Games sets out to redefine gaming by fostering a global team, embracing sustainable hiring practices, and championing inclusive creativity. Their mission extends to delivering accessible yet polished games across various genres and platforms, promising an exciting journey for gamers worldwide.
