Hybridcasual games yield a revenue per user that is 800% higher than hypercasual games

The latest report from Adjust and AppLovin, titled The Gaming App Insights Report, shines a spotlight on the flourishing state of hybridcasual mobile games. Following an analysis of the top 5,000 gaming apps across various genres, the report reveals that hybridcasual games are experiencing significant success, boasting a staggering 800% increase in average revenue per monthly active user compared to hypercasual games.

Despite some declines in key metrics such as overall installs, consumer spending, and play sessions, mobile gaming remains a dominant force in the industry. In 2023, mobile games accounted for half of all video game revenue and are projected to continue growing, with a predicted rise of 4% to reach $111.4 billion in 2024.

The report highlights several standout successes from 2023, including established titles like Honor of Kings and PUBG Mobile, as well as newcomers like Monopoly GO!, which became the most downloaded game on iOS and generated over $1 billion in revenue last year.

Daniel Tchernahovsky, VP of global business development at AppLovin, emphasizes the positive growth trajectory of the mobile gaming market, fueled by competition and innovation. He notes that new titles continue to find success despite market saturation, citing Monopoly GO! as a prime example.

Additionally, the report notes a growing trend of gamers opting into app tracking transparency (ATT), with acceptance rates increasing from 36% to 39% between Q1 2023 and Q1 2024. Notably, hypercasual games have the highest opt-in rate among genres.

The report also delves into the adoption of new technologies among game developers, with a significant portion leveraging AI for game development and marketing efforts. Furthermore, there is a rising trend of mobile game developers expanding their reach to console and PC platforms, with PC gaming identified as the fastest-growing segment.

Tiahn Wetzler, Director of Content and Insights at Adjust, underscores the importance of investing in advanced tools and technologies to scale games across various platforms and channels, ultimately reaching a broader audience and driving revenue growth.
