$360M grossing Harry Potter: Magic Awakened finally gets a global release on June 27
NetEase and Warner Bros. Games' highly anticipated collectible card game, "Harry Potter: Magic Awakened," is finally getting a global release on June 27 for Android and iOS devices. This release comes almost two years after its initial launch in Asia.
The game made its debut in China in September 2021 and gradually rolled out to other regions throughout the year. Despite its limited availability, "Magic Awakened" saw an incredibly successful launch, amassing over $228 million in revenue within just two months. Its success played a significant role in the Harry Potter franchise surpassing $1 billion in mobile revenue. After the game's triumph, an international release was announced in 2022.
"Magic Awakened" includes various elements that fans love about the Harry Potter franchise, such as iconic locations and the opportunity to choose your Hogwarts house. Players can engage in battles using collectible cards. The game will follow a free-to-play model, allowing a broader audience to experience the wizarding world.
Following a soft-launch in select territories like Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, the global release is highly anticipated. The pre-registration phase has already seen tremendous success, with two million downloads reached at the beginning of the month.
Interestingly, this marks the first major global launch of a mobile game based on J.K. Rowling's beloved series since her controversial views on the transgender community sparked international backlash. While "Hogwarts Legacy," a console and PC release earlier in the year, faced calls for boycotts, "Magic Awakened" has managed to fly under the radar of critics.
Accompanying the global release announcement is a new trailer showcasing the game's captivating art style, engaging storyline, and exciting gameplay. In addition to an original storyline, players can step into the shoes of their favorite characters from the original book series and relive some of its most memorable moments, including the thrilling battle against the Dementors in "Prisoner of Azkaban."
