An Angry Birds animated series is coming to Amazon Prime
Angry Birds Mystery Island, a new animated series based on the popular Rovio franchise, has been announced by Prime Video and Amazon Kids+.
The series, created by Futurama writer Eric Rogers and produced by Titmouse, follows three Hatchlings named Mia, Rosie, and Buddy, along with a foreign-exchange piglet named Hamylton, as they navigate a deserted island filled with supernatural elements. The cast includes Harvey Guillén from What We Do in the Shadows, Dominic Monaghan from Lost and Lord of the Rings, Nasim Pedrad from Saturday Night Live, and Kate Micucci from Scooby-Doo.
Rogers expressed his excitement about working with the talented team and cast, stating that the series will combine comedy, heart, and binge-worthy mystery with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. Rovio's head of brand licensing, Hanna Valkeapää-Nokkala, mentioned the eagerness of Hatchlings fans to see them in their own series with speaking voices for the first time, while working alongside Amazon to add a new chapter to their story in Angry Birds Mystery Island.
The Angry Birds franchise has had remarkable success, originally as a mobile gaming breakout hit and later expanded into other platforms. It has been adapted into two animated films and even has its own theme park in Qatar. Angry Birds Mystery Island is another testament to the franchise's recognition and accomplishments, as it ventures into new territories with engaging characters and multilayered storytelling that appeals to both kids and adults.
Veronica Pickett, head of original series at Amazon Kids+, expressed enthusiasm about expanding the Angry Birds universe and creating endearing new characters. Melissa Wolfe, head of animation at Amazon Studios, highlighted the global phenomenon that Angry Birds has become and the opportunity to provide more stories for customers worldwide to enjoy.
