Is Samurai Shodown coming to mobile on Netflix Games?

SNK's popular fighting game series, Samurai Shodown, appears to be making its way to mobile once again with its latest installment, and it seems that it will be released exclusively on Netflix Games.

The gaming Twitter account @Wario64 initially discovered the announcement. It came in the form of a YouTube trailer, hosted on Netflix's YouTube account, but was quickly set to private by the uploader. However, it didn't take long for someone to download the trailer and share it on the Reddit board r/iosgaming. Although the trailer doesn't reveal much, it does confirm that the game will be "Exclusively on Netflix Games" and will offer online multiplayer, a crucial feature for multiplayer fighting games like Samurai Shodown.

While some of the older titles from the Samurai Shodown series, such as Samurai Shodown 2 and 5, are already available on iOS and Android, this announcement, if confirmed, marks a significant step forward. Samurai Shodown (2019) is a more recent entry in the series, featuring advanced graphics and technical advancements. Having this title exclusively on Netflix Games would be a major achievement for the platform.

Netflix has been actively seeking to expand its gaming offerings, aiming to bring newer and more prominent games to its service. Although Netflix Games has faced challenges with low user visibility and adoption, the streaming giant continues to invest in a wide range of exclusive and high-cost titles. Recent additions like Valiant Hearts: Coming Home and classic titles like World of Goo demonstrate their rapid expansion of the gaming portfolio.

The exact release date of Samurai Shodown on the Netflix platform remains unclear, as Netflix recently announced a lineup of new titles coming this summer. It is expected that Netflix will provide a comment soon to confirm or clarify the details regarding this significant addition to their gaming catalog.
