Pikmin Bloom introduces crossover content promoting first mainline game in ten years

Nintendo's upcoming Pikmin 4, the first brand-new numbered entry in a decade, is generating excitement among fans. As part of the promotional efforts for the game, Nintendo is not only focusing on trailers and the Nintendo Switch but also extending it to the mobile realm.

Following the surprise remasters of Pikmin 1 and 2 on the Nintendo Switch, there was little information about Pikmin Bloom, the franchise's mobile title. However, with the release of the Pikmin 4 demo, it has been revealed that completing the demo will unlock special rewards in Pikmin Bloom.

Players who complete the Pikmin 4 demo on the Nintendo Switch will receive a special Mii costume in Pikmin Bloom, allowing them to ride Oatchi, a new character introduced in Pikmin 4 who assists the main protagonist by carrying heavy objects and transporting the player and their Pikmin. This crossover between the console game and the mobile game is a clever way to engage players in both platforms.

Pikmin Bloom is an augmented reality walking-based game developed by Niantic, following in the footsteps of Pokémon Go. While it didn't reach the same level of success as Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom still proved popular, garnering 2 million downloads in its first two weeks. The Nintendo brand likely supported the game's survival, and cross-promotion with the Switch version may further cultivate new players for both platforms.

Nintendo has used mobile games to cross-promote with the Switch before, as seen in Fire Emblem Heroes and Fire Emblem Engage. Exclusive rewards in the mobile title were given to players who played the Switch version, encouraging engagement on both platforms. Now, the situation is reversed with Pikmin, with exclusive rewards offered in the mobile title for playing on the Switch.

As Pikmin 4 introduces new species of Pikmin in the console game, fans are eager to see when these additions will be introduced to the mobile title.
