Tango Gameworks Inc. Rebrands and Embarks on a Fresh Start in 2025
Tango Gameworks, the acclaimed Japanese video game developer behind The Evil Within series, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush, has officially rebranded as Tango Gameworks Inc. following its acquisition by South Korean publisher KRAFTON Inc.
The transition comes after a challenging period for the studio.
In May 2024, Microsoft revealed plans to shut down several subsidiaries, including Tango Gameworks, as part of a broader strategic restructuring. The decision drew significant backlash, particularly in light of the recent success of Hi-Fi Rush, which received widespread praise for its innovative rhythm-action gameplay.
In August 2024, KRAFTON Inc.—best known for publishing PUBG: Battlegrounds—stepped in to acquire Tango Gameworks and the Hi-Fi Rush intellectual property.
This acquisition not only saved the studio but also marked Krafton’s first major venture into the Japanese video game market, supporting its goal to expand globally and enrich its portfolio with unique and innovative content.
Future of Tango Gameworks Inc.
Tango Gameworks’ integration into Krafton will not affect the availability of its existing titles, including The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush.
Krafton has reaffirmed its commitment to backing Tango Gameworks in developing new and exciting experiences for fans, hinting at the possibility of sequels or brand-new projects under Krafton's leadership.
Creative Director John Johanas expressed his enthusiasm for the future, saying:
"2024 had some of the highest highs and the lowest lows I’ve ever experienced, but it’s a blessing to be working with my friends, the team at Tango, on what will likely be a busy 2025. Truly a new start.”
— John Johanas, Creative Director at Tango Gameworks Inc.
