Nordcurrent Expands Beyond Mobile Gaming with River End Games Acquisition
Lithuanian mobile games developer and publisher Nordcurrent has strategically expanded its focus beyond mobile gaming through the acquisition of Gothenburg-based games studio River End Games. This move is a pivotal step in Nordcurrent’s growth plans and signifies a broader strategic direction.
Established in 2020 with support from Amplifier Game Invest, a subsidiary of Embracer Group, River End Games, led by Jonas Nordling, Anders Hejdenberg, and Karl Broström, consists of a skilled team of 17 game developers. With expertise in crafting AAA games like Battlefield and Need for Speed, as well as acclaimed titles such as Unravel, the team brings a wealth of experience and a portfolio of original intellectual properties.
Nordcurrent, known for successes like Cooking Fever, is venturing into the PC and console ecosystem with this acquisition. CEO Victoria Trofimova expressed excitement about Nordcurrent and River End actively participating in this evolving market.
Post-acquisition, River End Games will maintain autonomy and operational independence. Jonas Nordling, River End Games’ CEO, highlighted their passion for creating memorable gaming experiences and expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Nordcurrent.
With over 500 million game downloads to date, Nordcurrent's diverse portfolio includes popular free-to-play casual games like Cooking Fever, Airplane Chefs, Pocket Styler, and Murder in the Alps.
